Ernest (Ernst Goldner) Gold

1921 Wien - 1999 Pacific Palisades
Ernst born July 13, 1921 in Vienna, son of bank manager Dr. Gustav Goldner and Elisabeth Goldner, née Stransky, passed away in 1935. His grandfather Dr. Siegmund Stransky was a board member of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Wien. Piano and violin studies at the children's' department of the Neues Wiener Konservatorium, 1937-1938 piano with Grete Hinterhofer at the Wiener Musikakademie. 1938 exile with his father and sister to the U.S.A. , where he continued his music studies with Otto Cesana (theory) and Leo Barzin (conducting). From 1945 on composer of film music, orchestrator for George Antheil, who instructed him in counterpoint and theory of musical forms free of charge. Creation of popular music for Broadcast Music, Inc., amongst them hits like "Practice Makes Perfect" and "Accidentally on Purpose". 1958 Ernest Gold's first film music under his own name appeared with Warner Brothers. Next to film music Ernest Gold composed symphonies, chamber and choir music. For his film music he was awarded with a Golden Globe Award, an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards, a golden disc and an Oscar for 'Exodus' (1960, direction Otto Preminger). as a conductor he performed in many Broadway-musicals; 1964 he founded the Senior Citizen Orchestra Los Angeles. Ernest Gold passed away on March 17, 1999 at Pacific Palisades. Update Primavera Driessen Gruber August 10, 2015
