Ilona Vincze-Kraus

Ilona / Ilonka Vincze Kraus, born December 14, 1902 in Budapest from Austrian parents, pianist, teache. She studied piano at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest with Béla Bartók and Ernst von Dóhnanyi and in 1923 she was awarded the Liszt- Prize. This started her international career, performing all over Europe as a soloist; 1927 she played the piano in the Hungarian Trio (Magyar Trio) with her husband, law graduate and cellist Dr. László Vincze (1904 Budapest-1990 Tel Aviv) . In 1936 with her husband and little baby she migrated to Palestin, where she appeared as a soloist with the Palestine Orchestra (later IPO / Israel Philharmonic Orchestra) and teached at the Jerusalem branch of the Palestine Conservatoire until 1947, later on at the Jerusalem Conservatoire and from 1966 on at the Academy of Music in Tel-Aviv. Up to almost biblical age she was a stupendous pianist; she was one of the most important piano teachers in Israel. Among her students are many well-known pianists, like Betty Olivero, Meira Farkas, Naomi Shemer and Yaara Tal.Ilona Vincze-Kraus passed away in August 1998 in Tel-Aviv.
